Why shop with us?
Château Léoville Poyferré 2016 is a powerful yet finely balanced Saint-Julien, classified as a Second Growth in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Made in one of Bordeaux’s standout recent vintages, it brings together concentration, classic Left Bank structure and a long, precise finish; critics including Robert Parker, James Suckling and Vinous awarded it 97 points or more.
Tasting Notes
Deep and intensely coloured, it opens with blackcurrant and dark berries, joined by violet, cedar, graphite, spice and subtle toasted notes. The palate is concentrated and deep, with ripe, finely structured tannins, fresh acidity and a long, focused finish. It can be enjoyed now after decanting, but its structure and balance give it considerable potential to mature in bottle.
Production
The wine is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, from the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux. Further details on vineyard conditions, harvesting and vinification are not available.
Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C. It pairs well with beef, lamb and game, as well as mushroom dishes and meals with rich, savoury sauces. If opening now, decant before serving to give the wine time to open up.
Producer
Château Léoville Poyferré is one of Saint-Julien’s best-known estates and holds Second Growth status in the 1855 Classification. Its standing reflects the château’s place among the leading producers of the appellation, whose wines are prized for combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with Saint-Julien elegance.
