Description

Château Haut-Brion 2016 is a commanding yet finely poised expression of one of Bordeaux’s most historic estates. Its depth, smoky minerality and polished elegance reflect the château’s distinctive character; it is also the only 1855 Premier Cru Classé located outside the Médoc.

Tasting Notes
Deep in colour, the wine opens with dark berries and cassis, layered with graphite, cedar, tobacco, smoke and subtle spice. The palate is concentrated and precise, with a silk-smooth texture and a long, composed finish.

Production
From the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Haut-Brion’s vineyards are known for the gravel-rich soils characteristic of this part of Bordeaux, which help give the wines their signature structure and mineral edge. Specific details of the 2016 harvest and vinification are not provided. The vintage has considerable ageing potential and should develop added complexity over many years.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef, game or dishes featuring earthy mushrooms. Decant for around two hours before serving to let the wine open; younger bottles may benefit from longer in the decanter.
