Chateau Bordenave Sauternes 2020

Château Bordenave Sauternes 2020 is an organic sweet white wine from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated appellations, blending Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Made from selectively hand-picked, botrytised grapes and aged in oak, it combines generous sweetness with the freshness and elegance associated with Sauternes. The Bordenave family’s winemaking heritage dates back to 1676.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a golden-yellow colour with silvery highlights. Its refined aromas bring together exotic fruit, candied apricot and orange peel, with delicate hints of saffron, acacia honey and toasted hazelnut.

Production
The estate’s sandy, gravelly soils contribute a mineral character, while Sauternes’ misty mornings help encourage Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot, which concentrates the grapes’ sugars and aromas. The grapes are harvested by hand in successive passes, with only suitably ripe, botrytised bunches selected. Following fermentation, the wine spends six months in oak barrels, developing a silky texture and added aromatic complexity while retaining lively acidity.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 8–10°C, with foie gras, blue cheeses or fruit desserts; it also pairs well with dry pastries. Decanting is not usually necessary, though a brief moment in the glass can allow its aromas to open.

The Bordenave family has maintained a winemaking tradition in Bordeaux since 1676. Working in Sauternes, the estate farms its vineyards organically and focuses on expressing the character of its local terroir and the region’s noble-rot style.
