Catena Zapata Catena Alta Chardonnay 2024

Catena Alta Chardonnay 2024 is a still, dry white wine that pairs Mendoza’s high-altitude character with a refined, Burgundian texture. Made from carefully selected vineyard parcels, it reflects Nicolás Catena’s vision of showing the potential of Argentina’s mountain-grown Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes
The wine is described as intensely aromatic, with ripe peach, juicy pear, fig and citrus alongside a delicate hint of jasmine. On the palate, fresh acidity and pronounced minerality balance the fruit, leading to a savoury finish with a subtle bitter edge and a lightly saline impression. Its freshness and structure suggest it can develop further in bottle, though a specific drinking window is not provided.

Production
The Chardonnay comes from selected parcels at Adrianna Vineyard in high-altitude Gualtallary and Domingo Vineyard in Villa Bastías. Adrianna’s alluvial, gravelly soils have a limestone-rich surface, while Domingo is marked by gravel-covered terrain. Whole clusters are gently pressed, then fermented with native yeasts at low temperatures in French oak barrels. The wine spends 14 months on its lees in first-, second- and third-use barrels, with some lots undergoing no malolactic fermentation to preserve acidity. The winery reports using organic and sustainable practices.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. Its freshness and mineral character should work well with grilled or roasted fish, shellfish, roast chicken and creamy vegetable dishes. Decanting is not essential; opening the bottle shortly before serving should allow its aromas to unfold.
