Description
Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 2022 is a characterful Tuscan red that captures the classic balance of Sangiovese-driven freshness, structure, and depth. Sourced from one of Chianti Classico’s respected estates, it combines regional tradition with the elegance and intensity that have made Riserva wines some of the most sought-after expressions of Chianti.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a vivid ruby-red color with the kind of brightness that signals energy and lift. The nose is expected to offer a mix of red cherry, wild berries, dried herbs, and subtle spice, alongside earthy notes and a gentle savoury edge from aging in oak.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with lively acidity, firm but polished tannins, and a flavour profile that leans toward ripe red fruit, cranberry, and sour cherry, supported by floral and earthy undertones. The finish should be long and lively, with enough structure to develop further over the next 5–10 years, gaining complexity and softness with bottle age.
Production
This Chianti Classico Riserva comes from the rolling hills of Tuscany, where clay-rich soils help retain water and the warm, sunlit climate allows Sangiovese to ripen fully while preserving its natural freshness. The blend is 90% Sangiovese with 10% Canaiolo Nero and Colorino, harvested to emphasize balance, character, and regional authenticity.
Vinification includes around 20 days of maceration in stainless steel, followed by 12 to 18 months of maturation in Slavonian oak casks and additional time in bottle before release. This traditional approach helps build structure and depth while keeping the wine expressive and true to its terroir.
Food & Serving
This Riserva is a natural match for Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, roast lamb, grilled game, and aged pecorino. Serve it at 16–18°C, and decant for 30–60 minutes if possible to allow the aromas and texture to open up fully.
