Casanova di Neri’s Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2015 is one of the benchmark single-vineyard expressions of Sangiovese from Tuscany, combining depth, precision and remarkable site character. Born from Giacomo Neri’s belief in the rocky slopes of S. Angelo in Colle, Tenuta Nuova quickly became a modern Brunello reference and has earned a long list of critical accolades since its first release in 1993.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a brilliant ruby-garnet colour with impressive intensity and youthful energy for a wine of this class. The nose is layered and refined, offering ripe cherry, blackberry, violet, sweet spice, iron, tobacco and subtle cedar notes, with the wood now more integrated than in earlier vintages.
On the palate, Tenuta Nuova 2015 is powerful yet poised, with concentrated red and dark fruit, firm but polished tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish. The wine has the structure to age gracefully for many years, developing greater complexity, earthiness and tertiary notes of leather, dried herbs and truffle with cellaring.
Production
Tenuta Nuova comes from a stony, high-character site in S. Angelo in Colle, where the poor soils and distinctive microclimate push the Sangiovese vines to produce small, concentrated berries with excellent balance. The vineyard is managed with a strong focus on precision and quality, and harvesting is carried out carefully to ensure optimal ripeness. Vinification is designed to preserve purity and site expression, with meticulous cellar work and élevage that now places greater emphasis on balance and elegance rather than overt oak influence.
Food & Serving
This Brunello is an excellent match for grilled or roasted red meats, braised lamb, wild boar, game dishes and rich mushroom-based plates. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses and Tuscan cuisine such as pappardelle with ragù. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to fully open.
Producer
Casanova di Neri was founded by Giacomo Neri and has become one of the most respected names in Brunello di Montalcino, known for combining modern precision with a deep respect for the region’s traditions. The estate has built its reputation on exceptional vineyard sites and consistently high-quality wines, with Tenuta Nuova standing as one of its most famous achievements. Today, Giovanni Neri continues to guide the estate forward, further strengthening its standing among Montalcino’s elite producers.
