Description

Carsten Saalwächter’s Silvaner Steinkante 2023 comes from a limestone-rich plateau parcel and sits between the estate’s Alte Reben and Grauer Stein wines in its Silvaner range. Its combination of subtle fruit, generous texture and distinctive spice gives it a character all its own.

Tasting Notes
The nose is restrained and finely spiced, with hints of curry and delicate green fruit. On the palate, the wine is juicy, concentrated and fuller than its understated aromas might suggest, opening with ripe yellow-fruit tones before a savoury, stony and gently spicy finish. Its extended maturation on the lees contributes to its depth and texture. The supplied tasting note does not specify a further ageing window.

Production
The vines grow on a plateau above the Grauer Stein parcel, where the soils are more strongly influenced by yellow limestone. Following gentle pressing, the must is transferred without added sulphur to large 1,500-litre wooden casks, where the wine matures on its lees for around three years. Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, with roast poultry, pork, freshwater fish or creamy vegetable dishes. Its savoury spice and stony character also suit dishes featuring mushrooms or herbs. Decanting is not essential; a little time in the glass will help the aromas unfold.
