Description

Carsten Saalwächter’s 2024 Chardonnay takes inspiration from Burgundy while expressing a distinctive Rheinhessen character of its own. Refined use of oak, extended lees ageing and a cool limestone-influenced finish give it both richness and precision.

Tasting Notes
Initially reserved, the nose opens to subtle green banana, yeast, brioche, white nougat and toasted hazelnut. The palate is velvety and creamy, with gentle spice and a poised balance between texture and freshness; a long finish brings out a stony, limestone-like freshness and cool structure.

Production
Made from fully ripe, healthy grapes, the fruit received brief skin contact before being gently and slowly pressed. The must was transferred to larger wooden barrels, where measured oak influence supports rather than dominates the wine. It then matured for two winters on its full lees. The description does not specify vineyard sites or harvesting methods.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. Its creamy texture and mineral freshness suit roast chicken, grilled or pan-seared fish, scallops, and dishes with mushrooms or a delicate cream sauce. Decanting is not essential, but a short period in the glass—or around 15–20 minutes in a decanter—can help the initially reserved aromas open.
