Cantina Vecchia Torre Leverano 2022 is a classic red from Salento in southern Puglia, made under the protected DOP Leverano designation. A blend of 85% Negroamaro and 15% Malvasia Nera, it combines the warmth and generosity typical of the region with a smooth, approachable style. Cantina Vecchia Torre has been producing wines in Leverano since 1959, making this a bottle firmly rooted in the area’s winemaking traditions.

Tasting Notes
The wine has a ruby-red colour with garnet highlights. Its nose is intense, vinous and generous, with a persistent character that reflects the ripe fruit and warm climate of Salento. On the palate, it is warm and velvety, with a harmonious structure and a pleasant, gently bitter finish that adds balance and length. With its soft texture and fresh, uncomplicated style, the 2022 is ready to enjoy now. Its unoaked maturation keeps the focus on the fruit and makes it best suited to drinking in the near term rather than extended cellaring.

Production
The grapes are grown in Leverano on mixed alluvial soils composed of sand, silt and clay, with calcareous areas that contribute to the wine’s balance. After destemming, the must and skins undergo a 6–7 day maceration at a controlled temperature of 25–26°C. The wine then completes both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation before maturing in stainless-steel tanks until bottling, preserving its fresh fruit character and regional expression.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, with decanting generally unnecessary, although a brief opening before serving can allow the wine to unfold. Its generous, velvety profile pairs especially well with pasta served with meat sauce, roasted meats, game birds and mature cheeses. It is also a natural match for hearty Mediterranean dishes and relaxed family-style dinners.
