Ca’ d’Gal’s Moscato Canelli Sant’Ilario 2024 is a fragrant, sweet wine made from Moscato Bianco, also known as Moscato Reale, in the historic Canelli area of Piedmont. Fruit from old vines and a gently handled, slow fermentation give it vivid varietal aromas, lively freshness and a creamy, persistent sparkle.
Tasting Notes
Pale in appearance with a fine, creamy perlage, it opens with expressive aromas of yellow peach and apricot, layered with fresh hints of acacia and sage. The palate is sweet yet lively, with bright acidity balancing the ripe fruit and a lingering, gently sparkling finish.
Enjoy it while its fresh, aromatic character is at its most vivid. The producer’s bottle rest through the autumn following harvest helps harmonise the wine, but no specific long-term aging potential is provided.
Production
The Moscato Bianco grapes come from the Brichet and Valdivilla vineyards in Canelli, at around 400 metres above sea level, where white marl and blue clay meet a north-eastern exposure. Old vines and the traditional Guyot training system contribute to the fruit’s concentration and freshness. The grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September and gently pressed in the presence of dry ice to protect their primary aromas. The must remains with the lees in stainless-steel autoclaves at 0°C until spring, when a slow, controlled fermentation begins; the wine then rests in bottle until autumn after the harvest.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 6–8°C, with fine pastries, fruit desserts or mature cheeses. Its sweetness and lively acidity also make it a lovely match for fruit-based desserts. Decanting is not recommended; serve gently to preserve its delicate bubbles and aromatic lift.
Producer
Ca’ d’Gal describes this Moscato as an expression of family tradition in Piedmont, drawing in particular on old vines in Valdivilla. The information provided does not include further details about the estate’s history or notable awards.
