Bottega Vinai Merlot Trentino 2023

Bottega Vinai Merlot 2023 is a polished expression of Trentino, combining ripe berry fruit with a supple, well-balanced structure. Though Merlot originated in Bordeaux, it has been established in Trentino since the 19th century, where Cavit shapes it into a wine with a distinctly local character.

Tasting Notes
The wine is an intense ruby red with garnet highlights. Its inviting aromas bring together plum, blueberry, blackberry and raspberry, with a touch of vanilla from oak ageing.

Production
The Merlot grapes grow in Trentino’s subcontinental climate, among the hills of Vallagarina and around Trento. The vineyards span clay-rich, calcareous soils formed by ancient watercourses as well as deep, well-drained glacial and moraine terraces. Carefully selected, fully ripe grapes are hand-harvested in late September and fermented on their skins for around two weeks in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine then matures in French oak barrels, followed by a short rest in Slavonian oak.

Food & Serving
Serve with game, mature cheeses or classic red-meat dishes. A serving temperature of around 16–18°C should suit its ripe fruit and smooth tannins; a brief decant before serving can help open its aromas.
