Bollinger La Grande Année Brut Champagne 2008 (Giftbox)

Bollinger La Grande Année is made only in exceptional vintages, and the 2008 is a celebrated expression of Champagne’s famously great harvest. Presented in a wooden gift box, it combines the depth of 70% Pinot Noir with the finesse of 30% Chardonnay, drawing on Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a fine, lively mousse and a complex bouquet of white flowers, citrus and delicate spice. On the palate, a gently creamy texture meets pronounced mineral character, leading to a subtle saline note and a remarkably long finish. The 2008 has the concentration and structure to develop gracefully over many years, with potential to evolve over several decades when stored in suitable conditions.

Production
The grapes come exclusively from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards in Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs. Bollinger’s meticulous, hands-on approach extends from harvesting through bottling; fermentation begins in small oak barrels averaging around 20 years old, adding complexity while respecting the character of the fruit. The wine is aged in bottle under cork, in keeping with the house’s traditional method.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Its combination of richness, citrus and mineral freshness suits lobster, scallops, roast poultry and mature cheeses. Decanting is not essential; for a mature bottle, opening it shortly before serving allows the aromas to unfold without diminishing its sparkle.
