Description

Bollinger La Grande Année 2012 is a powerful vintage Champagne, combining concentrated fruit with the house’s characteristic depth and structure. More muscular and broad-shouldered than the 2008 vintage, it is a compelling choice for collectors and anyone seeking a Champagne with serious ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with yellow orchard fruit and fresh peach, joined by orange oil, toasted walnuts and dried apricot. Still somewhat reserved in its youth, it gives an impression of complexity waiting to unfold. Full-bodied and deep, the palate balances concentrated flavour with a clear line of acidity. A chalky finish and notably dry extract underline its structure. This is a Champagne built to evolve in the cellar; allow it time to develop further complexity.

Production
The 2012 was disgorged in July 2019. The available information does not specify vineyard sites, harvesting methods or vinification details, so these cannot be described reliably.

Food & Serving
Its weight and concentration suit roast chicken, veal, lobster or other richly flavoured seafood, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, and consider letting it warm slightly in the glass. Decanting is optional; for a young bottle, a brief decant may help reveal its aromas, though careful pouring is preferable if it has been cellared for some time.

Producer
Founded in 1829, Bollinger is one of Champagne’s best-known houses, based in Aÿ. It is especially associated with Pinot Noir-led wines and a distinctive, powerful style. La Grande Année is the house’s prestige vintage cuvée, made only in years considered worthy of the designation.
