Description

Bolla Le Origini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 2019 is a powerful, carefully crafted expression of the historic Valpolicella Classica, made from Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella. Created to honour the landmark 1950 vintage, it reflects Bolla’s long-standing expertise in appassimento, the drying of grapes that gives Amarone its distinctive depth and concentration.

Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-red with ruby highlights, it opens with aromas of wild cherry, fruit preserves and ripe pear, followed by notes of liquorice and cedar. The palate is warm, full and enveloping, with firm tannins and flavours of cocoa and spice leading to a persistent finish. Its concentration, structure and time in oak give it the substance to develop further in bottle, though no specific drinking window is provided.

Production
The grapes come from well-ventilated hillside vineyards around San Pietro in Cariano, at about 200 metres above sea level. After careful harvesting, they are dried for around 120 days in Torbe di Negrar, where the higher-altitude conditions and air movement help preserve their quality and concentrate their aromas. A cold pre-fermentation maceration is followed by a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation and extended skin contact; the wine then matures in oak barrels of different sizes before further bottle ageing.

Food & Serving
Serve with slow-roasted or braised meats, rich game dishes, or a selection of mature cheeses. A serving temperature of around 16–18°C should allow its fruit and spice to show clearly. Decant for about an hour before serving to help open up the aromas.

Producer
Founded in 1883, Bolla is one of the historic names of Valpolicella and a pioneer in the region’s grape-drying tradition. Le Origini pays tribute to the house’s Amarone heritage, with grapes from Torbe di Negrar carefully dried ahead of winter vinification under the direction of oenologist Christian Zulian.
