Description
Bolla Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2021 is a striking example of one of Italy’s most celebrated red wines, combining depth, finesse, and the unmistakable character of Valpolicella. Produced by Bolla, the historic Veronese house founded in 1883, it captures the tradition of Amarone through carefully dried grapes and a slow, deliberate winemaking approach.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a ruby-red color with a subtle orange rim, hinting at both richness and maturity. The bouquet is intensely aromatic, with preserved dark berries, menthol, chocolate, cinchona, rhubarb, myrtle, and star anise, creating a layered and expressive nose.
The palate is opulent yet beautifully balanced, with a soft, velvety texture and dense, polished tannins. A fresh, spicy finish keeps the wine lively despite its 15% ABV, while the aftertaste remains long, clean, and persistent. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, where the structure and concentration should continue to evolve gracefully over time.
Production
Crafted in Veneto from Corvina, Corvinone, Oseleta, and Rondinella, this Amarone comes from the Classico zone of Valpolicella, where the region’s hillside vineyards help preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The grapes are traditionally dried for several months before fermentation, concentrating sugars, flavors, and texture, and the wine is then slowly fermented to build depth and complexity.
Food & Serving
This Amarone is an ideal partner for grilled red meats, braised dishes, and well-aged cheeses, where its richness and structure can shine. Serve it at around 18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1 hour before drinking to allow the aromas to open fully and the texture to become even more expressive.
Producer
Bolla is one of Verona’s historic wine estates, established in 1883 and long associated with the quality and heritage of Valpolicella. Over more than a century, the winery has become a benchmark for traditional Veneto wines, earning recognition for combining regional authenticity with consistent excellence.
