Description
Bodega Chacra Chardonnay 2025 is the flagship Chardonnay from Bodega Chacra’s collaboration between Piero Incisa della Rocchetta and celebrated Burgundy vigneron Jean-Marc Roulot. Crafted in Patagonia’s remote Río Negro valley from organically and biodynamically farmed old vines, it combines New World purity and concentration with a distinctly Burgundian sense of texture, precision and ageability.
Tasting Notes
Initially restrained, the wine gradually reveals an intricate bouquet of seashell, Meyer lemon, apple tart and spring flowers. With time in the glass, aromas of white peach and delicate mineral notes emerge. The palate is focused and energetic, with lively acidity wrapped in a silky, quietly powerful texture. Its finish is long, crystalline and complex, suggesting excellent ageing potential for those prepared to give the wine time to develop.
It is already compelling with air, but should gain further depth and harmony over the coming years. Decanting or an extended period in a large glass will help reveal its full aromatic range.
Production
The Chardonnay comes from the Mainqué Estate in Río Negro, a glacially carved valley in northern Patagonia, around 750 feet above sea level. The dry climate, intense sunlight, clean desert air and pronounced day-to-night temperature variation help preserve freshness while concentrating flavour. The old vines are cultivated using organic and biodynamic principles. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts: 10% in clay amphora, 15% in concrete eggs and 75% in French oak. The wine then matures for nine months, with 75% resting in French oak—of which 5% is new—and 25% in concrete vats to balance texture, freshness and mineral precision.
Food & Serving
Serve at 10–12°C in a generous Burgundy glass, ideally after allowing the wine around an hour to open. Its silky texture and vibrant acidity pair beautifully with roast lobster and butter sauce, grilled monkfish, scallops with cauliflower purée, creamy poultry dishes and Parmesan risotto with white truffle. It also complements softer, mature French cheeses such as Comté and Beaufort.
Producer
Bodega Chacra was established by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta in Patagonia, where the estate has gained recognition for expressive wines made from old vines in the distinctive Río Negro terroir. The collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot, one of Burgundy’s most respected Chardonnay producers, brings a refined, terroir-focused perspective to the project. Chacra’s wines have received outstanding critical acclaim, including James Suckling scores of 97 points for the 2024 vintage, 98 for 2023 and 99 for 2022.
