Description

Bérêche & Fils Champagne Brut Réserve is one of the benchmark grower Champagnes, prized by enthusiasts for its precision, energy, and terroir expression. Crafted from Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir sourced from premium sites across the Champagne region, it offers a wonderfully poised balance between purity and complexity. This non-vintage cuvée is the estate’s calling card, reflecting both the character of the year and a deep reserve wine library, resulting in a Champagne of remarkable depth and consistency.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Brut Réserve typically shows a luminous pale gold colour, enlivened by a fine, persistent bead of bubbles that hints at its elegance and careful craftsmanship. The nose is inviting and complex, combining fresh orchard fruits—apple, pear, and yellow plum—with citrus zest, white flowers, and subtle notes of toasted brioche, hazelnut, and chalky minerality. With a bit of air, more layers emerge: hints of spice, dried herbs, and a delicate autolytic creaminess. On the palate, this Champagne is taut yet generous, with a vibrant, mouth-watering acidity that frames its ripe fruit core. Flavours of lemon curd, green apple, and stone fruit mingle with pastry, almond, and a distinct saline, chalk-driven finish that speaks clearly of Champagne’s limestone soils. The mousse is fine and creamy, adding texture without heaviness. While designed to drink beautifully on release, the Brut Réserve has the structure and concentration to evolve gracefully over 3–6 years from purchase, gaining extra nuance, nuttiness, and complexity with careful cellaring.

Production
Bérêche & Fils farms vineyards across several carefully chosen sites in the Champagne region, many on classic chalk and limestone soils that lend the wines their tension and minerality. The estate is known for working with great precision in the vines, using sustainable, low-intervention methods and placing strong emphasis on harvesting by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve purity and balance. In the cellar, parcels are vinified separately, often in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak, allowing each terroir to express itself before the final blend is assembled. A significant proportion of reserve wines is incorporated to build depth and consistency, and the wines typically undergo long lees aging in bottle before release, contributing to the refined texture, fine mousse, and subtle autolytic complexity that define this Brut Réserve.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is extremely versatile at the table and shines both as an aperitif and throughout a meal. Pair it with oysters, scallops, sashimi, and other delicate seafood to highlight its saline, mineral edge, or serve alongside creamy cheeses, poultry dishes, sushi, tempura, or simple roast chicken to complement its fruit and brioche notes. It also works beautifully with light charcuterie, vegetable tarts, and lightly spiced dishes where freshness and precision are key. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F); if possible, pour it into white wine glasses to allow the aromas to fully open. While lengthy decanting is not necessary, opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving, or pouring the first small glass and giving it a little time in the glass, can help the wine reveal its full aromatic complexity.

Producer
Founded in the 19th century, Bérêche & Fils is a revered grower estate in Champagne, long admired by sommeliers and collectors for its artisanal approach and steadfast focus on terroir. Working their own vineyards rather than buying fruit, the family has become a reference point for characterful, hands-on Champagne, helping to lead the modern grower movement that champions individual sites and careful, low-intervention winemaking. Over the years, Bérêche has built a reputation for remarkably precise, ageworthy cuvées that stand shoulder to shoulder with many of the region’s grandes marques, regularly earning strong recognition from international critics and a devoted following among Champagne enthusiasts worldwide.
