Description

Belle Glos Taylor Lane Pinot Noir 2014 Magnum is a rare, cellar‑released cuvée from the rugged West Sonoma Coast, bottled exclusively in magnum and held back at the estate until its 2023 debut. This is the very first Belle Glos wine sourced from the newly established West Sonoma Coast AVA, capturing the cool, ocean‑influenced character of this extreme coastal site. With its distinctive wax‑sealed bottle, unique label, and limited magnum‑only format—plus original wooden case packaging when buying three—it’s a collector’s piece as much as it is a pinnacle expression of Californian Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2014 Taylor Lane Pinot Noir shows a deep, vibrant ruby hue that belies its age, with a luminous rim hinting at graceful evolution rather than decline. The nose is intensely complex and perfumed, layering dried thyme, wild forest floor and sous‑bois with notes of jasmine, gardenia and tangelo, evolving into caramel, brown-sugared cherry, spiced cranberry sauce and subtle vanilla and cedar from extended oak aging. On the palate, this magnum offers impressive richness and depth, with a generous, mouth‑filling texture balanced by a firm spine of coastal acidity. Grainy yet juicy strawberry and black cherry are intertwined with orange peel, crushed stone minerality and a dusting of white pepper, giving both brightness and savor. The maturity brings a velvety softness and nuanced tertiary complexity—earth, dried herbs and gentle baking spice—without losing energy or freshness. Having been aged for years in the cool Belle Glos cellars before release, this 2014 still has significant aging potential, especially in magnum: it should continue to develop added nuance and harmony well through the end of the decade and beyond.

Production
Taylor Lane Vineyard sits in the westernmost reaches of Sonoma County, in the cool, marine‑influenced West Sonoma Coast, where fog, ocean breezes and elevated, rugged terrain naturally limit yields and extend ripening. The cool coastal climate, coupled with well‑drained soils, produces small, concentrated Pinot Noir berries with vibrant acidity and aromatic intensity. Grapes are carefully harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, with meticulous sorting to ensure only pristine fruit makes it into the fermenters. Vinification at Belle Glos typically involves a mix of whole berries, a measured use of French oak (including a significant proportion of new barrels), and an extended élevage that builds texture and complexity. For this special cuvée, the 2014 was aged in the estate’s cool cellars for years before the decision was made to release it, with the wine bottled exclusively in magnum to preserve freshness, ageability and a slow, graceful evolution.

Food & Serving
This powerful yet refined Pinot Noir is an outstanding partner for richly flavored dishes: think roast duck with cherry or orange glaze, slow‑braised short ribs, herb‑crusted lamb, mushroom risotto, truffle-infused dishes, or cedar‑plank salmon. Its depth and structure can also stand up to game birds and savory, umami‑rich cuisine. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and balance. Given its age and concentration, decanting for 45–90 minutes is recommended to allow the wine to fully unfurl, especially when enjoyed in its current optimal drinking window; in a magnum, a longer decant can be particularly rewarding for special occasions.

Producer
Belle Glos is the Pinot Noir‑focused project of fifth‑generation winemaker Joe Wagner, part of the famous Wagner family behind Caymus Vineyards. Named after his grandmother Lorna Belle Glos, the label has become known for its single‑vineyard Pinot Noirs from top coastal Californian sites and its signature wax‑dipped bottles. Taylor Lane holds a special place in the story: it was the first vineyard Joe Wagner ever planted and remains one of the most unique sites he farms. By pioneering expressive, site‑driven Pinot Noir from regions like the West Sonoma Coast, Belle Glos has helped redefine California’s potential for premium, terroir‑driven Pinot, regularly earning high scores from leading critics and building a devoted following among Pinot Noir lovers and Burgundy enthusiasts alike.
