Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2020 Eulenloch Pinot Noir shows a deep ruby hue, unusually dark for Pinot Noir, hinting at its concentration and richness. The nose is generous and layered, opening with ripe blackberry, blackcurrant, and red cherry, followed by nuances of strawberry, violet, nutmeg, vanilla, toasted coconut, and a subtle sweet spice from French oak. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, opulent Pinot Noir with a supple, velvety mouthfeel. Flavors unfold in waves: juicy blackberries and red cherries, ripe strawberries, and blackcurrant supported by well-integrated notes of vanilla, baking spice, a touch of pepper, and delicate oak toast. The tannins are polished and fine-grained, giving structure without harshness, while the Carneros freshness keeps the wine lively through a long, smooth finish. Production
The Eulenloch Vineyard lies in Napa Valley’s Carneros AVA, a cool-climate area influenced by daily breezes and fog rolling in from the nearby Pacific and San Pablo Bay. This coolness, combined with ample sunshine and clay-rich soils, provides ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing slow, even ripening and excellent flavor development. Grapes for this wine were carefully selected and harvested, then fully destemmed to emphasize purity of fruit and a supple texture. Fermentation took place in a mix of open-top and closed stainless-steel tanks, enabling both aromatic precision and gentle extraction. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 9 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new, lending subtle toast, spice, and vanilla that complement rather than overpower the vivid fruit.

This generous, silky Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with refined yet flavorful dishes. Try it with roast duck, herb-crusted lamb, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, seared tuna, or earthy dishes featuring truffles, porcini, or roasted root vegetables. It also works well with soft, creamy cheeses and mild to medium-hard cow’s milk cheeses. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic complexity.
