Description

Alain Geoffroy’s Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2024 is a Chardonnay shaped by the mineral character of Chablis and the concentration of old vines. Made from vines aged 45–70 years, it combines freshness and lively acidity with a fuller texture and a subtle touch of oak. The Geoffroy estate dates back to 1850, carrying a long-standing Burgundian tradition into this expressive vintage.

Tasting Notes
Bright straw yellow with delicate green reflections, it opens with aromas of menthol, acacia and grapefruit, followed by hints of caramel and freshly baked bread. The palate is generous and rounded, balanced by lively acidity, with a persistent finish marked by mineral notes and a discreet oak accent.

Production
The grapes come from south- and southeast-facing sites with fossil-rich Kimmeridgian limestone and marl soils, a classic source of Chablis’ mineral character. The estate describes its vineyard practices as organic and sustainable; specific harvesting methods are not provided. Fermentation in stainless-steel tanks preserves freshness, while subsequent ageing in oak barrels adds structure and gentle complexity. The wine’s balance and concentration suggest it can develop further with careful cellaring.

Food & Serving
Serve at 10–12°C with oysters, scallops, delicate fish dishes, sweetbreads or mild cheeses. A brief period in the glass should allow its aromas to open; decanting is not essential, though a short decant can be useful if the wine seems especially restrained.

Producer
Founded in 1850, Alain Geoffroy is a family estate in Burgundy with around 50 hectares of vineyards. Its Chablis wines draw on the region’s distinctive Kimmeridgian soils and the character of its old vines, while the estate highlights organic and sustainable vineyard practices. The Vieilles Vignes bottling offers a concentrated expression of this heritage.
