Description

From Roa de Duero in the heart of Ribera del Duero, the 2021 Valderiz is a polished expression of Tinto Fino that balances the region’s characteristic depth with freshness and juicy fruit. The vintage was rated “Excelente” by the D.O. Ribera del Duero, and this wine’s measured extraction lets its vineyard character shine without sacrificing structure.

Tasting Notes
Initially reserved, the nose opens with air to reveal cherry, blueberry and dark forest berries, joined by violet, aromatic herbs and a balsamic lift. Sweet spice, cocoa, coffee and subtle toasted oak add complexity.

Production
The fruit comes from Roa de Duero, where Bodegas y Viñedos Valderiz farms around 70 hectares across more than 35 separate parcels. The vineyards are worked organically, without herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilisers, and the vines used for this wine are mostly over 25 years old. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts and without aggressive extraction. Depending on the market, sources report 20–24 months of barrel ageing in a combination of 80% French and 20% American oak.

Food & Serving
Enjoy with lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast or braised beef; Ibérico pork and Jamón Ibérico are also natural matches. Its fruit and herbal spice also work well with mushroom dishes and rich risotto. Serve at around 16°C and allow roughly an hour in a decanter or open bottle to let the wine unfold.
