Description

A distinguished single-vineyard Garnacha from Mas Doix, 2021 “1903” comes from exceptionally old vines in Poboleda, planted in the historic year that gives the wine its name. Classified as Vinya Classificada since the 2020 vintage, it offers a more floral, silky expression of Priorat than its companion wine, 1902 Tossal d’en Bou.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a concentrated ruby-red colour. Its expressive nose brings together red cherry, raspberry and ripe wild strawberry with darker berries and plum, followed by violet, lavender and Mediterranean herbs. With air, notes of garrigue, liquorice and pepper emerge alongside a distinct, stony schist character and subtle toast from the oak.

Production
Made from 100% Garnacha grown on the region’s lean llicorella schist soils, the wine draws its concentration and mineral character from vines planted in 1903. The grapes are selectively hand-harvested and sorted again before fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. The 2021 vintage then spends 16 months in French oak barriques and larger 500-litre casks, and is bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, allowing the wine’s freshness and fine texture to show. It pairs especially well with venison fillet and porcini mushrooms, as well as lamb, duck breast, pigeon, veal with morels or dishes featuring black truffle. Decant for about an hour before serving to let its floral, herbal and mineral notes open; the 2021 is still at an early stage of development and should reward further bottle ageing.
