Description

Mas Doix’s 2021 “1902” Tossal d’en Bou is a rare, single-vineyard Priorat made chiefly from Cariñena vines planted in 1902. Classified as Gran Vinya Classificada, it comes from a steep, south-west-facing site in Poboleda and offers the region’s characteristic depth with striking freshness and finesse.

Tasting Notes
Deep and concentrated in appearance, the wine opens with blueberry, dark raspberry and plum, followed by violet and lavender. With air, notes of Mediterranean herbs, graphite, bark and fine spice emerge.

Production
The palate combines concentrated dark fruit with lively, almost citrus-edged freshness and firm, slightly rustic Cariñena tannins. Graphite, dried herbs and a touch of orange peel carry through a long, mineral finish. The 2021 vintage is compelling now with ample aeration, but its structure and concentration should reward several more years in the cellar.

Food & Serving
Serve in a large Burgundy glass at around 16°C, and give the wine plenty of air before drinking. Pair it with lamb, venison, beef tenderloin or pigeon; dishes featuring Mediterranean herbs, mushrooms or black truffle make particularly good matches.
