Tasting Notes
In the glass, it presents a polished golden amber hue. The nose opens with green apple, pear, mint, soft pine, and a delicate waft of peat smoke, supported by subtle notes of honey, citrus peel, and oak. The palate is layered and restrained, with bright fruit, herbal freshness, light malt sweetness, and a fine smoky thread that never overpowers. The texture is smooth and elegant, leading to a long finish of citrus, dried herbs, gentle spice, and lingering woodland smoke. With its balance and complexity, it offers excellent immediate drinking pleasure and strong short- to medium-term aging appeal once opened, though it is best enjoyed now in its mature form.

Production
Hakushu 18YO is produced at Suntory’s Hakushu Distillery, located in the forested mountains of Yamanashi, where pure water, cool temperatures, and clean air shape a distinctly fresh style of whisky. The surroundings and elevated climate contribute to a slower maturation, helping preserve brightness while developing depth over time. Traditional whisky-making techniques and careful cask selection are central to its vinification-style production process, with long maturation in oak casks lending structure, spice, and complexity.

Food & Serving
Best served neat or with just a few drops of water to open up its aromatic layers. It pairs well with refined dishes such as smoked salmon, grilled white fish, sushi, roasted poultry, or lightly seasoned game, and also complements mild aged cheeses and dark chocolate. Serve at room temperature, and decanting is not necessary.
