Quinta Agua Alta 30 Years Tawny Special is a mature Portuguese fortified wine from the Douro, offering the polished complexity associated with extended ageing in wood. At 30 years old, it combines the richness of Touriga Nacional with developed nutty, dried-fruit character and a long, elegant finish. Tawny Port has been a defining expression of the Douro for centuries, prized for its ability to evolve gracefully over time.
Tasting Notes
The wine is expected to show a deep tawny to amber appearance, reflecting three decades of maturation. Its aromatic profile typically reveals dried fruits, toasted nuts, caramel, vanilla, orange peel and subtle spice, with the freshness preserved beneath its mature character.
On the palate, expect a smooth, concentrated style with flavours of fig, raisin, walnut, toffee and gentle baking spice. The texture should be silky and balanced, with a persistent finish that brings together sweetness, oak-derived complexity and refreshing acidity. A 30 Years Tawny is ready to drink and is not generally intended for further bottle ageing once opened, although it can remain enjoyable for several weeks when properly resealed and refrigerated.
Production
Produced in Portugal’s Douro region and made with Touriga Nacional, one of the valley’s most important red grape varieties, this Port is shaped by the region’s steep, schist-rich landscapes and warm, dry climate. Tawny Port is traditionally matured in seasoned wooden casks, where gradual exposure to oxygen develops its amber colour and layered flavours over many years. Specific vineyard and cellar techniques for this bottling have not been provided.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 12–14°C to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. It is excellent with crème brûlée, almond tart, dried-fruit desserts, blue cheese and mature hard cheeses, while its nutty character also makes it a natural partner for walnuts and lightly spiced pastries. Decanting is generally unnecessary, as mature Tawny Port is filtered and ready to serve; simply pour carefully and allow it a few minutes in the glass to open.
