Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour with a gradually developing garnet hue, the wine opens with an earthy, mineral character reminiscent of crushed rock and warm stone. Aromas of rosemary, cedar, exotic spices and ripe raspberry add complexity, while subtle violet notes emerge with time in the glass. The palate is enveloping and silky, building gradually in intensity. Bright wild berries and a delicate hint of orange give way to sweet herbs, supported by crisp, finely textured tannins and a refreshing mineral finish. The 2019 vintage is long, classically structured and still youthful; it can be enjoyed now with decanting, but will develop additional nuance over the next 15–25 years under suitable cellar conditions.

Production
Made primarily from Sangiovese, as required for Brunello di Montalcino, the wine comes from Il Poggione’s vineyards around Montalcino, where sunny days, cool nights and mineral-rich soils help preserve freshness while encouraging full phenolic ripeness. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected before fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is then matured for an extended period in oak, allowing the firm tannins, fruit and savoury complexity to integrate while preserving the variety’s characteristic freshness and aromatic detail.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 18°C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to temperature. Decant for around one to two hours when drinking the wine young, both to soften its youthful tannins and to reveal its layered aromas. Its structure and savoury depth make it an excellent match for bistecca alla Fiorentina, roast lamb, wild boar ragù, braised beef, aged Tuscan cheeses and other rich, slow-cooked dishes.
