Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Les Souteyrades 2022

Domaine Saint-Damien’s Les Souteyrades 2022 is a powerful yet poised Gigondas, pairing ripe southern Rhône fruit with freshness and elegant structure. Made from old-vine Grenache and Mourvèdre grown on the lower terraces of Gigondas, it reflects the appellation’s long tradition of expressive, age-worthy red wines.

Tasting Notes
Deep and intense in the glass, it opens with ripe strawberry, dark raspberry and black-fruit aromas, layered with violet, liquorice, exotic spice and floral notes. The palate is full and concentrated, with fine tannins and refreshing balance that keeps the generous fruit from feeling heavy.

Production
The wine is made from 80% Grenache, from vines planted in 1948, and 20% Mourvèdre, planted in 1977, on the Les Souteyrades terraces in Gigondas. After harvest, the grapes undergo a seven-week maceration in concrete tanks. The wine then matures for 12 months in large oak foudres and is bottled without fining or filtration. Its structure suggests potential to develop further complexity in bottle.

Food & Serving
Enjoy with roast lamb, grilled or braised red meats, game, or a hearty dish with herbs and spices. Serve at around 16–18°C; a short spell in a decanter can help the wine open up, especially when drinking it young.
