Contratto Alta Langa For England Rosé Pas Dosé 2021 is an elegant, organic sparkling rosé from Piedmont’s Alta Langa DOCG, made exclusively from Pinot Noir and crafted according to the traditional method. With no added dosage and at least 42 months of ageing on the lees, it combines fine, persistent bubbles with remarkable freshness and depth. Contratto is one of Piedmont’s historic sparkling-wine producers, with roots dating back to the 19th century.

Tasting Notes
Pale onion-skin pink in colour, this rosé displays an exceptionally fine and enveloping perlage. The nose is floral and refined, layered with ripe nectarine and subtle hints of apricot kernel. On the palate, it is fresh, persistent and generous, with delicate notes of lime and Annurca apple adding lift to the wine’s elegant structure. The extended lees ageing brings both texture and complexity, while the absence of dosage preserves a pure, dry finish. It can be enjoyed now for its freshness and precision, but should develop further savoury and toasty nuances over the next few years when stored correctly. Rated 92/100 by James Suckling.

Production
Made from 100% Pinot Noir grown in the hilly Alta Langa area of Piedmont, this organic sparkling wine reflects the region’s cool climate and elevated vineyards. The grapes are harvested with care before undergoing secondary fermentation in bottle according to the classic method. The wine then spends at least 42 months on its lees, developing its fine mousse and layered character, before being released as Pas Dosé, with no dosage added.

Food & Serving
Its dry, vibrant profile makes it an excellent partner for oysters, shellfish, sushi and delicate seafood dishes, while its generous fruit and creamy texture also suit cured salmon, poultry and fresh goat’s cheese. Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Decanting is not recommended, as it would quickly reduce the wine’s effervescence; instead, open carefully and serve in tulip-shaped sparkling-wine glasses.
