Château Suduiraut 2016 is a polished Sauternes that pairs the appellation’s signature richness with striking balance and definition. The historic estate was named a Premier Cru in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and this vintage has impressed in a blind tasting a decade after harvest.

Tasting Notes
Bright and nuanced on the nose, with quince, saffron and a delicate hint of white flowers; the oak is beautifully integrated. On the palate, it is composed and balanced, with impressive fullness, concentration and power that build gradually into a long, assured finish. The wine is already showing beautifully, yet its depth and balance suggest it can continue to develop in the cellar for many years. Neal Martin praised its performance at a 10-year anniversary tasting in February 2026.

Production
Château Suduiraut lies in Sauternes, where warm, humid conditions encourage noble rot—the beneficial Botrytis cinerea that concentrates the grapes and gives the region’s sweet wines their complexity. The estate’s vineyards include gravelly soils, and harvesting is typically carried out by hand in successive passes to select suitably botrytised fruit. Specific vinification details for the 2016 vintage are not provided.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, with blue cheeses, foie gras or fruit-based desserts such as apricot tart. It also makes a rewarding match for lightly spiced dishes. Decanting is not essential, but allowing the wine 20–30 minutes to breathe can help its aromas open.
