Brigatti Francesco’s Motzfilon is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from the Colline Novaresi in northern Piedmont, where the grape develops an elegant, aromatic style with vibrant acidity and firm structure. The 2022 vintage showcases the estate’s focus on characterful, terroir-driven wines from a region historically associated with some of Italy’s most distinctive Nebbiolo.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine presents a bright ruby-red colour with garnet reflections. The nose is lifted and expressive, revealing red cherries, raspberries and rose petals alongside hints of violet, herbs and subtle spice.
On the palate, it is finely structured, combining fresh red-fruit flavours with Nebbiolo’s characteristic acidity and gently grippy tannins. A savoury, mineral finish adds complexity and length. It can be enjoyed now with a short period of aeration, while careful cellaring over the next several years should allow its floral and savoury nuances to develop further.
Production
Made from Nebbiolo grown in the Colline Novaresi, an area shaped by the foothills of Monte Rosa and the cooler climate of northern Piedmont. The region’s mineral-rich soils and pronounced day-to-night temperature variation help preserve freshness while encouraging aromatic complexity. The grapes are vinified to retain Nebbiolo’s natural fragrance, acidity and tannic structure; specific harvesting and maturation details are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Motzfilon is a natural match for Piedmontese cuisine, including risotto with mushrooms, tajarin pasta, truffle dishes and braised meats. It also pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, veal and mature hard cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but 30–60 minutes of aeration can soften the tannins and open the wine’s floral and red-fruit aromas.
Producer
Brigatti Francesco is a family estate based in the Novara hills of northern Piedmont, a region with a long-standing tradition of producing elegant, age-worthy Nebbiolo. The winery’s wines reflect the cooler Alpine-influenced climate and distinctive soils of the Colline Novaresi, offering a more lifted and finely detailed interpretation of the grape than many warmer-climate examples.
