Tasting Notes
Bright and pale gold in appearance, the wine opens with layered aromas of ripe citrus, white peach and orchard fruit, alongside delicate floral notes and a pronounced stony, mineral character. Subtle herbal nuances add further complexity. On the palate, it is concentrated yet remarkably taut, with incisive acidity, elegant fruit and a fine, chalky texture. The finish is long, focused and energetic, showing the depth and tension typical of Riesling from the Idig vineyard. With its balance, structure and freshness, it should develop beautifully over the next decade or more, gaining additional honeyed and savoury complexity with bottle age.

Production
The Idig vineyard is a steep, south-east-facing slope with an incline of around 20%, an unusually demanding site by Pfalz standards. Cooling winds from the Klausental provide natural ventilation, helping the grapes ripen slowly and remain healthy late into the season. The soils are based on solid limestone, covered by Terra fusca and enriched with clay and small amounts of basalt from the nearby Pechsteinkopf. Grapes are harvested by hand in several passes, with strict selection in the vineyard. The combination of old, partly ungrafted vines and younger plantings contributes to the wine’s concentration, precision and depth.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 10–12°C, allowing the wine to warm slightly in the glass as its mineral and fruit nuances unfold. It is an excellent match for freshwater fish, shellfish, grilled or roasted poultry, veal and refined vegetable dishes, particularly asparagus or cauliflower. The wine’s acidity also works well with lightly spiced Asian cuisine. Decanting is not essential when young, but a short decant of 20–30 minutes can help reveal its full aromatic complexity; mature bottles are best handled carefully and served directly after opening.
