A. Christmann’s Riesling Idig Großes Gewächs comes from one of the Pfalz’s most celebrated Riesling sites, prized for wines of precision, tension and depth. Its steep, south-east-facing slope and distinctive limestone-rich soils set it apart, while the Großes Gewächs designation marks it as a top-tier dry wine.

Production
Idig is a steep, south-east-facing vineyard with a slope of around 20%, ventilated by cool winds from the Klausental. Its limestone bedrock is covered by Terra fusca soils with clay and traces of basalt from the nearby Pechsteinkopf, conditions associated with taut, elegant Riesling. The vineyard includes old, partly ungrafted vines alongside younger plantings. Grapes are hand-harvested in multiple passes and rigorously selected; further vinification details for the 2024 vintage are not provided.

Food & Serving
Try this dry Riesling with grilled or steamed fish, shellfish, roast poultry or dishes with fresh herbs. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. A short spell in a decanter can help the wine open, particularly if enjoyed young.
