Vega Sicilia Unico 2015

Vega Sicilia Único 2015 is one of Spain’s most renowned red wines, celebrated for its extraordinary longevity, precision and unmistakable sense of place. Produced by the historic Vega Sicilia estate in Castilla y León, Único combines the character of Tempranillo with the structure and complexity expected from one of the world’s great collectible wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Único 2015 shows a deep ruby colour with garnet reflections. Its bouquet is layered and refined, revealing ripe blackberries, cassis and dark cherries alongside cedar, tobacco, graphite, sweet spices and subtle balsamic notes. With time, further nuances of leather, dried herbs and earthy complexity emerge. The palate is full-bodied yet remarkably poised, balancing concentrated dark fruit with fresh acidity, polished tannins and a long, savoury finish. Oak is seamlessly integrated, adding depth rather than dominating the wine. This is a vintage built for extended cellaring and should continue to evolve beautifully for several decades under suitable conditions.

Production
The wine is produced from estate-grown fruit in the continental climate of Castilla y León, where warm, dry days and cool nights help Tempranillo develop intensity while retaining freshness. Vega Sicilia is known for meticulous vineyard selection and traditional, patient winemaking, followed by exceptionally long maturation in a combination of oak barrels and bottle. This extended ageing is central to Único’s character, allowing its structure, fruit and tertiary complexity to knit together before release.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to temperature. A careful decant of around two hours is recommended for a young bottle, both to open the wine and to separate any sediment; older bottles should be handled gently and decanted only shortly before serving. Its depth and savoury character make it an excellent match for roast lamb, mature beef, game, Iberian cured meats and richly flavoured mushroom dishes.
