Tenimenti d'Alessandro Syrah Bosco 2021 is an elegant organic Syrah from Tuscany’s Cortona area, crafted to showcase both power and finesse. Made from carefully selected high-density vineyards in the Manzano hills, it has become one of the benchmark expressions of Italian Syrah, with a style that balances Mediterranean character, depth, and precision.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, concentrated color that hints at its richness and structure. The nose is intensely layered, with earthy tones joined by aromas of Arabica coffee, cocoa beans, Tuscan cigar box, fresh mint, red fruit, and floral notes, all wrapped in subtle Mediterranean scrub nuances.
On the palate, it is structured and expressive, with ripe red fruit at the core and a savory, finely textured profile that carries through to a long finish. The wine has impressive depth and complexity, and while already compelling, it should continue to evolve gracefully with a few more years in bottle.
Production
The Syrah grapes come from the Manzano hills in Cortona, at 290 to 300 meters above sea level, where clay- and silt-rich soils and a dry microclimate help promote even ripening. The vineyards are farmed organically in carefully managed parcels with high planting density and spur-pruned cordon training, allowing for naturally low yields and strong aromatic concentration.
Harvest is done by hand at the end of September. In the cellar, fermentation is followed by 15 to 20 days of skin maceration, with malolactic fermentation taking place in wood. The wine then matures for 18 to 20 months in barrels, with periodic bâtonnage to refine texture, before final blending and additional aging to achieve balance and harmony.
Food & Serving
This is a wine built for flavorful dishes, especially game, roast pork, rich pasta courses, and aged cheeses. It is best served at around 16-18°C, and decanting for at least 1-2 hours is recommended to let its aromatic complexity and structure fully open up.
Producer
Tenimenti Luigi d'Alessandro has been closely associated with the Cortona area since the early 1990s and is widely credited with helping establish the region’s reputation for outstanding Syrah. Il Bosco, first created in 1992 as a flagship selection, reflects the estate’s commitment to organic viticulture, high-density plantings, and careful cellar work. The wine has earned strong critical acclaim, including a 95-point rating from James Suckling for the 2020 vintage.
