Description

A rare and mature Nahe Riesling from the celebrated Schlossböckelheimer Kupfergrube vineyard, this 1994 Trockenbeerenauslese showcases the remarkable concentration achieved in an outstanding sweet-wine style. Made from individually selected, botrytis-affected berries, it combines intense fruit richness with the bright acidity and mineral character for which the Nahe is known. Now a beautifully developed historic vintage, it is a compelling choice for collectors and lovers of aged German Riesling.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a luminous golden colour, with the deeper hue and polished appearance expected from a mature Trockenbeerenauslese. Its expressive bouquet offers layers of ripe peach, apricot and mango, complemented by delicate honeyed tones and a subtle mineral nuance. On the palate, it is rich, opulent and highly concentrated, yet remains balanced by refreshing Riesling acidity. The sweetness is beautifully integrated, carrying generous ripe-fruit flavours through to a long, intense finish marked by honey, stone fruit and a lingering mineral impression. Already mature and rewarding to drink, this well-stored 1994 should continue to develop gracefully for years, depending on its provenance and storage conditions.

Production
The grapes originate in the Schlossböckelheimer Kupfergrube, one of the Nahe’s best-known vineyard sites, where Riesling vines grow in stony, mineral-rich soils. For a Trockenbeerenauslese, only individually selected, naturally shrivelled berries affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) are harvested by hand. This painstaking selection concentrates the grapes’ sugars, acidity and aromas, resulting in a dessert wine of exceptional intensity and longevity.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its richness and lively acidity make it an excellent partner for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, apricot or peach tart, and blue or mature washed-rind cheeses; it can also be enjoyed on its own as an elegant aperitif or contemplative final glass. Decanting is not essential, although a careful decant may help separate any mature sediment and allow the wine’s aromas to open before serving.

Producer
Staatl. Weinbaudomäne Niederhausen-Schloßböckelheim is a state-run wine estate associated with the Nahe’s important vineyard sites and Riesling tradition. Its wines reflect the region’s combination of mineral-rich soils, cool climate and naturally vibrant acidity. This Schloss Böckelheimer Kupfergrube Trockenbeerenauslese illustrates the estate’s ability to produce exceptionally concentrated, age-worthy sweet wines from one of the Nahe’s most distinguished locations.
