Description
Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2018 is an iconic California Zinfandel blend, made from one of the region’s historic vineyards. First produced in 1966, it draws on exceptionally old vines—some up to 130 years old—and balances ripe, expressive fruit with spice and savoury depth.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with dark cherry, warm spice, cola and mint, with a subtle earthy note. The palate brings dark fruit together with pomegranate, rose petal and cocoa, followed by a hint of woodsmoke and a long finish.
Production
Geyserville Vineyard lies in California’s Alexander Valley and includes some of Ridge’s oldest vines. Zinfandel typically makes up around 70% of the blend, complemented by Carignan, Petite Sirah and other varieties; the proportions vary slightly by vintage. Winemaker Eric Baugher matures the wine for 13 months in American oak, with around 10% new barrels to let the fruit remain at the fore. Its balance and concentration give it the potential to develop further in the cellar.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, with a short decant of 30–60 minutes to allow the aromas to open. It pairs well with grilled or barbecued meats, lamb, peppery sausages and dishes featuring roasted vegetables or smoky spices.
