Renato Fenocchio Barbaresco Starderi 2021

Renato Fenocchio’s Barbaresco Starderi 2021 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s highly regarded cru vineyards. Produced in the Langhe, where Nebbiolo has been cultivated for centuries, it combines the grape’s characteristic structure and longevity with the distinctive elegance of the Starderi site.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright ruby-red colour with developing garnet tones. Its bouquet is typically expressive and layered, offering aromas of red cherries, wild berries, rose petals and violet, followed by hints of liquorice, spices and earthy notes. On the palate, it is precise and focused, with vibrant acidity, firm yet finely grained tannins and flavours of red fruit, herbs and subtle savoury spice. The 2021 vintage offers excellent balance and concentration, suggesting a wine with considerable ageing potential. It can be enjoyed from around 2026, but should develop beautifully over the next 10–15 years or more under suitable cellar conditions.

Production
The Starderi vineyard lies in the Barbaresco area of the Langhe, where calcareous marl soils and a gently rolling landscape provide ideal conditions for producing aromatic, long-lived Nebbiolo. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with a focus on preserving the character of the vineyard and vintage, before maturing in oak to soften the wine’s tannins and allow its floral, mineral and savoury complexity to develop.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 店16–18°C after allowing the bottle to acclimatise. Decanting for around one to two hours is recommended when drinking the wine young, while older bottles may benefit from careful decanting to remove sediment. Its structure and savoury character make it an excellent match for braised beef, roast lamb, game, truffle dishes, porcini mushrooms and mature hard cheeses.

Renato Fenocchio is a small, traditionally minded producer based in the Barbaresco zone, with a focus on expressing the identity of individual vineyards rather than pursuing heavily extracted styles. The estate’s wines are appreciated for their balance, perfume and capacity to age, reflecting the classic character of Nebbiolo and the distinctive terroir of the Langhe.
