Description

Pepi Lignana’s Poggio Colombi is a Cabernet-led red from Maremma Toscana, where elevated vineyards meet the cooling influence of the nearby sea. Its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot brings together dark-fruited depth and a distinctly Mediterranean character.

Tasting Notes
Ruby red in the glass, with a subtly lighter rim. The nose brings dark berries and forest fruit, layered with rosemary, oregano, tobacco and earthy, leather-like notes. The palate is full-bodied yet balanced, with firm, savoury spice. Its structure should make it enjoyable now, while also giving it the potential to develop over the next few years.

Production
The fruit comes from elevated, sea-facing parcels in Maremma, where deep sandy-clay soils with a high proportion of stones provide good drainage and support even ripening. The grapes are hand-harvested in late September. The accompanying production notes describe fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation, 12 months in previously used barriques and a further six months in bottle; they refer to the 2021 vintage, so these details are not confirmed specifically for 2023.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with grilled or roasted red meat, lamb, game or aged hard cheeses. Decant for about 30 minutes before serving to give the wine time to open.
