Description
Château Lafite Rothschild 2011 is a refined Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated First Growth estates. Known for its aristocratic structure, precision, and remarkable finesse, it reflects the pedigree and restraint that have made Lafite a benchmark for generations of collectors.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby core with a graceful garnet edge as it begins to evolve. The nose is often lifted and complex, with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, violets, tobacco leaf, and subtle earthy spice.
On the palate, it is poised and layered rather than overtly powerful, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, understated finish. Expect dark berry fruit, cassis, cigar box, mineral notes, and a touch of oak spice, all delivered with the elegance and precision that define Lafite. While approachable with patience, it has the structure to continue developing beautifully over many years.
Production
Lafite Rothschild is located in the northern reaches of Pauillac, where gravelly soils over limestone and sand provide excellent drainage and help the Cabernet Sauvignon ripen with depth and balance. The estate’s vineyards benefit from Bordeaux’s maritime climate, which encourages slow, even maturation and preserves freshness in the fruit. Vinification is carried out with meticulous care, typically involving parcel selection, temperature-controlled fermentation, and aging in French oak barrels to preserve purity, structure, and aromatic finesse.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef Wellington, duck breast, game birds, or fine cuts of aged beef. It also works well with truffle-based dishes and hard, mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours before serving, especially if the bottle has some age, to allow the wine’s aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Château Lafite Rothschild is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic First Growths and has long been regarded as a reference point for Pauillac and fine Cabernet Sauvignon. Its history stretches back centuries, with the Rothschild family taking ownership in the 19th century and helping solidify its legendary reputation. Today, Lafite remains one of the most admired estates in the world, celebrated for elegance, longevity, and exceptional consistency.
