Description
Klaus Peter Keller’s Morstein Felix Spätburgunder GG 2017 is a remarkably refined expression of German Pinot Noir from Rheinhessen. Crafted from hand-selected grapes and matured for 18 months in French oak, it combines the elegance of Burgundy-inspired Spätburgunder with the distinctive character of the celebrated Morstein vineyard. As a Grosses Gewächs, it represents one of Germany’s highest classifications for dry, terroir-driven wines.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby-red colour with vivid violet highlights. Its aromatic profile is expressive and layered, offering ripe cherry, dark forest berries and subtle spice, complemented by finely integrated notes of French oak.
On the palate, the 2017 Morstein Felix is powerful yet poised, with concentrated fruit, well-defined tannins and a fresh, balanced structure. A long, elegant finish leaves impressions of dark berries, spice and gentle wood. With its combination of concentration and freshness, it has excellent ageing potential and should continue to develop gracefully over the coming years.
Production
The grapes were hand-harvested from the renowned Morstein site in Rheinhessen, a vineyard celebrated for producing wines of depth, precision and mineral character. Following vinification, the wine matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, allowing the fruit, tannins and oak to integrate into a complex and harmonious whole.
Food & Serving
A natural partner for richly flavoured dishes, this Spätburgunder pairs especially well with roast beef, venison and other game, as well as braised meats and mature, savoury cheeses. Serve lightly cool at around 16–18°C. Decanting for approximately 30–60 minutes is recommended, particularly when opening the wine in its youth, to reveal its full aromatic complexity.
