Description

A rare 1949 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from Gillot & Söhne, sourced from the steep slopes of Oppenheimer Reisekahr in Rheinhessen. Produced only in exceptional vintages from highly concentrated, hand-selected grapes, this historic dessert wine is presented in a 0.7-litre bottle and an elegant wooden presentation case.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep golden hue, reflecting its considerable age and concentration. Its aromatic profile is rich and expressive, with notes of honey, ripe apricot and peach, complemented by the depth and complexity expected of a mature sweet Riesling. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generously sweet, yet lifted by refreshing acidity that keeps the wine lively and balanced. As a wine from 1949, it is already mature and should be enjoyed for its developed character; its remaining potential will depend greatly on the bottle’s storage history and current condition.

Production
The grapes for this Trockenbeerenauslese came from the steep Oppenheimer Reisekahr slopes in Rheinhessen and were carefully selected by hand. Trockenbeerenauslese represents one of Germany’s highest traditional quality levels, made from exceptionally ripe and concentrated grapes in outstanding vintages. Further details regarding the precise vinification and maturation are not available.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly chilled, around 10–12°C, to balance the wine’s sweetness while preserving its aromatic complexity. Its honeyed fruit profile makes it a natural match for foie gras, blue cheese, fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée and aged cheeses. Given its age and rarity, decanting is not essential; if sediment is present, carefully standing the bottle upright before service and pouring gently is recommended.
