Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Santenay 1er Cru Rousseau Blanc 2016 is an expressive white Burgundy made from Chardonnay in one of Santenay’s premier cru sites. The vintage combines the freshness and concentration associated with Burgundy’s 2016 season, while the wine’s mature age now brings added texture and complexity. Santenay is traditionally known for its red wines, making well-crafted white examples such as this a particularly appealing discovery.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows a bright golden colour, with developing depth from bottle age. Its bouquet brings together ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel and white flowers with notes of toasted hazelnut, butter and subtle mineral tones. On the palate, it is finely textured and balanced, combining creamy fruit with lively acidity and a gently saline, stony finish.
The 2016 vintage is drinking beautifully now, with the freshness to support further development in the short to medium term. Expect additional nutty, honeyed and savoury nuances with further bottle age, provided it is stored well.
Production
Produced from Chardonnay in the Rousseau Premier Cru climat of Santenay, where limestone-rich soils and clay contribute both mineral character and structure. The grapes were harvested during the 2016 vintage and vinified and matured in the traditional Burgundian manner, allowing the wine to develop depth while preserving the site’s freshness and precision. Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is particularly recognised for an élevage style that favours texture, balance and a clear expression of terroir.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around 11–13°C, allowing the wine to open in the glass as it warms slightly. It pairs particularly well with roast chicken, veal, grilled or poached fish, lobster, scallops and creamy mushroom dishes. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help reveal the wine’s aromatic complexity, although older bottles should be handled gently and may be best served directly from the bottle after a short period of opening.
Producer
Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is based in the Côte de Beaune and was founded by Pierre-Yves Colin, a member of the renowned Colin-Morey winemaking family. The domaine has earned a strong reputation for its precise, terroir-focused white Burgundies, combining careful vineyard work with restrained, thoughtful cellar practices. Its wines are sought after for their purity, mineral definition and ability to develop gracefully with age.
