Description

Château Troplong Mondot 2019 is a powerful yet refined expression of Saint-Émilion, combining the depth of Merlot with the structure and aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sourced from one of the highest and most sought-after sites in the appellation, it reflects the château’s modern style: richly concentrated, mineral-driven and increasingly defined by elegance and balance. A renowned Right Bank estate, Troplong Mondot is regarded as one of Saint-Émilion’s leading names.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep, captivating colour in the glass. Its aromatic profile opens with blackcurrants, black cherries, plums and wild berries, followed by more nuanced notes of violets, rose petals, liquorice, cocoa, forest floor and exotic spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and remarkably silky, with layers of ripe dark fruit, blackberry, plum and black cherry. Fine-grained tannins and lively acidity provide structure and energy, while a subtle mineral character brings precision to the wine’s impressive concentration. The finish is long and persistent, revealing dark berries, spice, cocoa and mineral notes. Although already compelling, the 2019 vintage has the depth, balance and structure to develop beautifully over several decades.

Production
Troplong Mondot’s vineyards occupy an elevated limestone and clay terroir above Saint-Émilion, a position that contributes both richness and freshness to the wines. The grapes are carefully harvested at optimal ripeness, with selection focused on preserving purity and balance. The Merlot-led blend is vinified with close attention to each parcel, followed by maturation in oak to complement the fruit and integrate the wine’s structure. The 2019 vintage reflects the estate’s stylistic evolution from sheer power towards greater finesse, precision and harmony.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for richly flavoured dishes such as fillet of beef, roast lamb, venison and slow-cooked beef cheeks. It also pairs beautifully with duck, truffle dishes, wild mushrooms and mature hard cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for one to two hours when enjoying the wine young, or open carefully and allow it to evolve in the glass if preferred. With bottle age, a shorter decant may be sufficient to preserve its aromatic complexity.

Producer
Château Troplong Mondot is a historic estate in Saint-Émilion, situated on one of the appellation’s highest plateaux. Its elevated position and distinctive limestone-clay soils have helped establish a signature style marked by intensity, depth and a pronounced mineral character. Long recognised as one of the Right Bank’s most prestigious producers, the château has become particularly noted for combining the natural power of its terroir with a more polished, elegant and balanced approach in recent vintages.
