Caldaro Quintessenz Kalterersee Classico Superiore 2024

Caldaro Quintessenz Kalterersee Classico Superiore is a classic expression of Alto Adige’s most traditional red grape, Schiava (Vernatsch). Light on its feet yet full of character, it captures the fresh, fruit-driven style that has made Kaltern and the shores of Lake Caldaro famous for generations.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, light ruby-red color that immediately signals freshness and elegance. The nose is inviting and fruit-forward, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, lifted by a subtle hint of almond. On the palate, it is smooth, juicy, and easy to enjoy, with soft tannins and a savory, rounded finish that keeps the fruit profile at the center. While made for early pleasure, it has enough structure and balance to develop nicely over the near term, best enjoyed while its vibrant fruit is at its peak.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards in the Caldaro area, grown at elevations between 230 and 500 meters above sea level, where the alpine climate and lake influence help preserve freshness and aromatic purity. After harvest, the wine undergoes 10 days of skin fermentation at 25°C, followed by malolactic fermentation. It is then aged on the lees for 6 months in cement tanks and large wooden casks, a combination that adds texture while keeping the wine’s delicate varietal character intact.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for charcuterie, roasted poultry, light pasta dishes, and South Tyrolean specialties such as speck, mushroom risotto, or mild cheeses. Serve slightly chilled at around 14–16°C, and decanting is not necessary—simply open and enjoy.
