Description
Vincent Girardin Meursault Les Narvaux 2022 is a precise, mineral-driven expression of Chardonnay from one of Meursault’s most prized lieux-dits. Perched just above the village’s premier cru slopes, Les Narvaux is known for producing wines that combine purity, tension and understated power. This bottling captures the soul of modern white Burgundy: vibrant, terroir-focused and crafted with a light hand in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a luminous pale gold color with green highlights that hint at its youth and freshness. The nose opens with lifted aromas of lemon zest, crisp pear and green apple, layered with white flowers, chalky minerality and a touch of toasted hazelnut and fresh brioche as it unfolds in the glass.
On the palate, Meursault Les Narvaux 2022 is both elegant and concentrated, with a fine, saline backbone. Citrus and orchard fruits are framed by subtle notes of almond cream, buttered toast and a whisper of spice, all carried by vibrant acidity and a tightly woven structure. The finish is long and mouthwatering, with lingering minerality and a gentle, nutty complexity. While already approachable in its youth after some aeration, this wine has the balance and structure to evolve beautifully over 6–10 years, gaining more texture, depth and complexity with time in the cellar.
Production
Les Narvaux sits on the upper slope of Meursault, where poor, stony limestone soils and excellent drainage naturally limit yields and intensify concentration. Vines grow in a relatively cool, breezy exposition, which helps preserve acidity and freshness in the grapes. Harvesting is carried out by hand, with strict selection in the vineyard and at the winery to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy fruit is used. The grapes are gently pressed, and the juice is fermented with native yeasts in French oak barrels, a judicious portion of which are new to add subtle texture rather than overt wood character. The wine is then aged on fine lees, with limited bâtonnage to build creaminess while maintaining tension and clarity, before being lightly filtered and bottled to preserve its precision and sense of place.
Food & Serving
This Meursault is a natural partner for refined dishes such as butter-poached lobster, scallops in a light cream sauce, seared turbot, or roast chicken with morels. It also pairs beautifully with rich shellfish, firm white fish, veal in delicate cream sauces, and aged, nutty cheeses like Comté or Beaufort. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic complexity. Decanting for 30–45 minutes in its youth is recommended to allow the wine to open fully and reveal the full spectrum of its mineral and textural nuances.
Producer
Maison Vincent Girardin, based in Meursault, has become one of the key names in contemporary Burgundy, known for its focus on purity, precision and terroir expression. Founded in the 1980s, the domaine quickly earned a reputation for high-quality, meticulously crafted wines across the Côte de Beaune. Over time, the style has evolved toward greater finesse, less overt oak and more emphasis on vineyard character, making Girardin a reference point for elegant, modern white Burgundy. Sustainable and respectful vineyard practices, combined with a sensitive, low-intervention approach in the cellar, have cemented the estate’s standing as an important ambassador for the Meursault appellation and the broader Burgundy region.
