Description

Robert Weil Kiedrich Riesling 2015 is an off-dry Rheingau Riesling with peach, lemon zest, wet gravel and poise from Kiedrich's slopes in the glass today. This is the bottle to choose when you want the grander side of Robert Weil at the table. The fruit is ripe and golden. The mineral line has that cool wet-stone feel that points to Kiedrich's phyllite, quartzite and slate.

About the Wine
Robert Weil farms this Riesling in Kiedrich, the Rheingau village that frames the estate's identity, and the 2015 shows that origin in its stony scent. The soils named for this wine are phyllite, quartzite and slate. That mix gives a darker mineral tone than the simple word Riesling suggests. Wet gravel sits beside peach and lemon. The fruit profile is yellow and ripe for the estate. The Kiedrich line stays cool and detailed. Sustainable certification adds another clear detail to the farming story. The wine sits at 13 percent alcohol, which gives the palate a steady frame. After harvest, the wine was aged in large oak barrels, the Großes Holzfass that suits Robert Weil's more textured Rieslings. The wood shows through shape, breadth and a faint savoury edge. A measured off-dry balance remains in the finished wine. Peach and apricot gather through the middle, with lemon zest tightening the finish. The 2015 now carries early maturity in its colour and a calm waxy note from bottle age.

Tasting Notes
The colour sits at pale gold, clear and luminous, with a warm rim and slow movement that make the 2015 feel settled and ready for slow attention from the first pour. The nose opens with peach skin and ripe lemon, then moves into apricot, cut grass and wet gravel that fits the phyllite and quartzite signature of Kiedrich after several minutes in the glass. On the palate the off-dry fruit feels polished and exact, with lime zest running through a broad centre shaped by large oak ageing and 13 percent alcohol across the tongue in a steady line. The finish is long and mineral, with yellow fruit fading into crushed slate and faint almond, plus beeswax and a cool herbal echo that points straight back to Robert Weil on the final swallow. Drink from 2025 to 2040.

Food Pairing
With fish, choose pan-roasted cod or turbot with brown butter, parsley and lemon to meet the wine's peach fruit and firm citrus line. For a regional Rheingau plate, serve trout with Riesling sauce and buttered potatoes, then let the wet-gravel finish cut through the cream in a clean narrow line. Seafood can move toward scallops with ginger, prawns with lemongrass or crab salad with green apple. The off-dry edge handles Asian spice with real comfort. For white meat, try roast chicken with apricot glaze or pork loin with fennel, and add aged Comté or mature Gouda if you want the nutty side of the large-oak ageing to come forward.

Producer
Robert Weil is easy to spot on a shelf, with a pale blue label that has become almost as recognisable as the estate name, and the look suits a house tied so closely to Kiedrich Riesling. The estate was founded in 1875 by Dr Robert Weil, and its story still feels anchored in this Rheingau village above the Rhine, where phyllite and quartzite sit with slate in the slopes. That Kiedrich anchor appears in the glass, through a stone-dust scent under ripe fruit, and this 2015 off-dry bottle shows that detail with peach and wet gravel in a calm mature register. Wilhelm Weil has given the estate a clear modern identity, with clean detail in the wines and crisp labels that carry the same blue across the range, from estate Riesling to grander Kiedrich selections. The house treats sweetness as a fine adjustment in the glass, and the residual sugar in this wine reads through peach flesh, lemon oil and gentle wax across a smooth middle palate near the finish and after a slow swirl. Open this bottle next to a younger Robert Weil Riesling and the producer's discipline becomes clear in a concrete way, with the 2015 adding beeswax, wet stone and golden apricot to its bright Kiedrich fruit.
