Description
Michel Guignier Moulin-à-Vent 2024 is a serious, terroir-driven Gamay from one of Beaujolais’ most structured cru sites. Made from vines over 60 years old on granite- and manganese-rich soils, it combines depth, precision, and a distinctly mineral backbone that sets it apart from more playful expressions of the grape.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a deeper, darker style of Beaujolais, with an inviting core of black cherry, dried cranberry, spice, and subtle floral notes. The aromatics are layered and focused, showing both ripeness and the lifted character that comes from the region’s granitic soils.
On the palate, the wine is juicy yet firmly structured, with mature tannins, a long finish, and a salty, granite-like edge that adds tension and energy. It has the balance to drink well now with a little air, but it also has the stuffing to develop gracefully over the next 7–9 years.
Production
The Gamay grapes come from old vines planted on granite and manganese soils in Moulin-à-Vent, one of Beaujolais’ most respected crus. These conditions naturally limit yields and contribute to the wine’s concentration, minerality, and firm structure. Aged on lees in barrel, the wine gains texture and harmony while preserving its purity and vibrant natural energy.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted poultry, duck, grilled pork, mushroom dishes, or a classic charcuterie board. Serve slightly cool, around 15–16°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening young to help the aromatics and structure fully unfold.
Producer
Michel Guignier is a thoughtful Beaujolais producer known for expressive, terroir-focused wines that highlight the character of each cru. His work in Moulin-à-Vent reflects the region’s ability to make age-worthy, serious Gamay with real depth and personality, and he is appreciated for crafting wines that balance authenticity with elegance.
