The bouquet is classically Left Bank: blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and dark plum, with subtle notes of leather, earth, and polished wood emerging with time in the glass. The palate is firm, concentrated, and beautifully structured, with layers of cassis, blackberry, savory spice, and mineral tension wrapped around fine, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and composed, reflecting Latour’s hallmark power and precision. In a good cellar, 2002 continues to age gracefully and may hold for many more years.

It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant several hours in advance if the bottle is still youthful or if sediment is present.
