Description
Château Latour 2000 is one of the great modern expressions of Pauillac, combining immense power with remarkable precision and structure. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé from one of Bordeaux’s most historic estates, it stands out for its depth, longevity, and unmistakable left-bank character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet core with only slight evolution at the rim, a sign of its impressive aging potential. The nose is layered and complex, offering blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle earthy and truffle-like notes as it opens.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated, and tightly woven, with firm yet refined tannins supporting a core of dark fruit, cassis, and savory minerality. The finish is long and authoritative, with the structure to continue developing beautifully for years, and in a top vintage like 2000, it is built for very long cellaring.
Production
Château Latour is located in the southern part of Pauillac, where gravel-rich soils over clay and limestone provide excellent drainage and ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, with grapes typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness. Vinification is carried out with meticulous selection and traditional Bordeaux methods to preserve structure, purity, and the estate’s signature depth.
Food & Serving
This is a classic match for premium red meats, especially ribeye, lamb, venison, or beef Wellington, as well as truffle-based dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking now to allow the wine to fully express its aromatic complexity and soften its tannins.
Producer
Château Latour is one of the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux and was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. With a history dating back centuries, it has long been regarded as a benchmark for Pauillac and Left Bank Bordeaux, known for producing wines of immense concentration, longevity, and precision. The estate has earned a global reputation for consistency and excellence across top vintages.
