Domaine des Marrans, Fleurie MG, 2023

Domaine des Marrans Fleurie 2023 is a vibrant, terroir-driven Gamay from one of Beaujolais’ most admired cru villages. As the estate’s flagship wine, it combines Fleurie’s hallmark perfume and elegance with the depth of old-vine fruit and the precision of careful organic farming.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, youthful ruby color. The nose is immediately expressive, with lifted aromas of roses, red berries, blackberries, and a subtle herbal note that adds freshness and complexity. The palate is open and charming, with juicy red fruit, fine acidity, and a supple texture that gives the wine real energy without feeling heavy. There is enough intensity to carry the finish, where floral and berry notes linger with a gentle savory edge. It is delicious now for its freshness and approachability, but it can also develop nicely over the next 3 to 5 years.

Production
The wine comes from two prized parcels, La Chapelle des Bois and Champagne, in the Fleurie commune, where the domaine is based. The vines are around 45 years old and rooted in granite soils on south-facing slopes, which help create concentration, finesse, and natural ripeness. The grapes are organically grown and hand-harvested, then fermented with native yeast over about 10 days before a short aging period in large oak casks and bottling at the estate.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent lightly chilled red for dishes such as roast chicken, grilled turkey, charcuterie, salmon, mushroom risotto, or herb-roasted vegetables. Serve it at around 13–15°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help if the wine is tasted very young.
