Domaine des Marrans Chiroubles Aux Côtes Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a lively and expressive Beaujolais cru that shows just how elegant Gamay can be. Sourced from old vines on prized slopes in Chiroubles, it combines bright fruit, freshness, and a beautifully pure style that makes it stand out among the region’s reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it offers a vibrant, youthful ruby colour. The nose is open and aromatic, with black cherry, red berry, and a lovely hint of red fruit compote that gives the wine extra charm and depth. On the palate, this is fresh and juicy, with crisp acidity, supple tannins, and a clean, red-fruited core. The balance of ripeness and lift gives it real drinkability now, while the concentration from old vines suggests it can also develop nicely over the next few years.

Production
The wine comes from east- and south-facing slopes in Chiroubles, one of the more respected cru villages in Beaujolais, where more than 50-year-old vines grow on granite soils with a top layer of clay. Fruit from the Les Côtes and Crozet parcels is harvested by hand, then fermented for around 10 days in Domaine des Marrans’ cellar before spending a short period ageing in wooden barrels and being bottled at the estate.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red that works beautifully with charcuterie, roast chicken, duck, mushroom dishes, grilled salmon, and lighter game. Serve it slightly chilled at around 14–16°C, and decanting is not essential, though a short aeration can help the aromatics open up if the bottle has just been opened.
